Fire Prevention Week

fire prevention week Fire Prevention Week is an internationally known public health observance. Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire that occurred in 1871.

The purpose of Fire Prevention Week is to bring awareness and educate members of the community to ensure that everyone understands how to stay safe in case of a fire.

In 2018, Harding Fire Protection worked with the Durham College Fire and Life Safety Technician program to bring awareness on campus and raise money for Sunnybrook Hospital Ross Tilley Burn Centre.

Durham College, with the help of Harding Fire Protection, was able to donate over $3100 to the hospital. Randy Penesar, FLST coordinator, said that Durham College wanted to support Sunnybrook’s efforts because they provide medical care to those who have been affected by fire or fire-related incidents.

Not only was the cause very close at heart to Harding Fire Protection but by partnering with Durham College, we were able to support up and coming technicians and continue to foster our relationship with the college.
